The three men had escaped the jail by removing concrete blocks from an upper wall area, and then used sheets and other materials to scale an exterior wall.

Officer Jovian Motley died at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's Wainwright Unit in Lovelady, in what was supposed to be a routine inmate cell extraction.

Hankison is appealing his 33-month sentence. The government requested for him to be freed while the appeal is ongoing.
