Gulf Hagus, Maine camping question - WhiteBlaze
I am wondering if tent camping is allowed along the Gulf Hagus area in Maine. It is known as the little Grand Canyon of Maine (near Kathadin Iron Works). I have not found a decent website that mentions camping for that area. If anyone has camped there, what are decent spots? Any information appreciated.

AT Primitive Campsite Locations?
An example are the "unpublished" campsites beside the Tye River between the Priest and Three Ridges in VA or the campsite beside the parking area at Wilbur Dam Road near Lake Watauga in TN. Thank you for all of the helpful responses so far!

car camping in the whites - whiteblaze.net
In addition to Cherry Mountain road check out the Jefferson Notch road, there are some nice stream side campsites. Your best chance at grabbing a site is midweek, slim pickings on the weekend. If you would like something a bit more regulated there is pay per car camping along the Tripoli Road out of Woodstock.

Advice for what campground to stay at, Mt. Washington NH ... - WhiteBlaze
Campsites are very close to each other, which may deter some campers. I enjoyed it very much. Guests were all courteous and friendly. It so happens that owner is from Texas and spends the warmer months caring for the campground. Even the maintenance guy was friendly. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. EDIT: Showers are on site and free.

Happy Isles->Illilouette - WhiteBlaze
Agreed, I believe you'll have to hike @ 8-10 mile to Ililouette, camp, then backtrack that same route the next day. I did the same thing as far as permits! I plan on camping in the backpackers campsite the night before, day hiking from Happy Isles up to the Glacier Point/JMT trail connection & back to the campground, then shuttling up to Glacier Point the next day, avoiding the heavy crowds ...

Carver's Gap to Sam's Gap hike - any suggestions?
It's not necessary to stay at established campsites and shelters. Pick up water and hike a little further to places like Roan Mt, Beauty Spot, on the Nolichucky and Big Bald, if at all possible.

Have you ever been turned away by an AMC caretaker because the campsite ...
Sometimes the AMC caretaker campsites are full to bursting. This is difficult for both hikers and caretakers alike. This poll asks if you have ever been turned away at one of these sites because it was at or overcapacity when you arrived. If your answer is "yes" how did you deal with the situation?

Fontana Lake camping? - WhiteBlaze
Sounds like you're wanting to avoid camping as GSMNP designated campsites. But if you're wanting to camp on the north shore, that's GSMNP land and you're required to camp only at designated campsites with a reservation/permit. So you would be limited to either one of the boat-in campsites, or hike into one of the back country campsites along north shore such as 86, 81, 77, 76, or 98.

Camp sites at Woody Gap? - WhiteBlaze
I believe you are hiking N. About 1.5 miles before Woody Gap there is a nice sport with views on top of Ramrock Mtn. Its dry, though. At Woody Gap if you cross the highway there are obvious spots you can camp that can't be seen from the road. You'll see the spur trails. I'm guessing the water there is still flowing, but I haven't been there recently enough to say for sure.
